Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major. The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time coach Cervara. Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet. It is his initial title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year. The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments. "This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev. "This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her." The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months. The player's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded. Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced service. Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead. The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional championship, took control to create a third set. Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match. Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
